Ikebana - More than a flower arrangement

Ikebana is the ancient Japanese flower arranging art. This is how the name comes in Japanese ike, meaning ‘alive’ or ‘arrange’ and bana meaning ‘flower.’ It is said that the practice of offering flowers in temples originated in the seventh century when Buddhism was first introduced to Japan. It is more than a flower arrangement as it is a way of expressing beauty.

Nowadays, Ikebana is associated with meditative quality of human. The experts realize that Ikebana helps in attaining peace and happiness. While arranging ikebana one will have to be in a silent place and meditate. This will surely make oneself calm. It is a balance of humanity and aesthetics.
School of Ikebana:

Over 3000 schools of Ikebana are present. The oldest known school is Ikenobo.  The decoration of flowers was to symbolize the concept of the cosmos rather. And less of their beauty. Now, Ikebana has become Japanese culture as a whole. It was always a rule to use indigenous flowers for Ikebana but now Ikebana has incorporated new flowers around the world in arranging.

The new style started developed like uneven numbers and asymmetry in the arrangements. These styles soon became one of the most popular. There are three common Moribana styles—upright, slanting, and water-reflecting—with many variations within each style. Beginner's usually started learning Ikebana by the upright style.
